Regulator opposes appraisal pact
WASHINGTON - The regulator who oversees national banks is protesting an agreement by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to stop buying mortgages that use lenders' in-house appraisers, a pact intended to protect buyers from fraudulently inflated home prices.
